5 Mixed Drinks You Can Serve at Your Next Summer Get Together

Summer allows everyone to play hooky from life for a while. The season lets you kick back and relax with a drink in your hand while you soak up the day. Since soaking up the day also means soaking up the rays, you want that drink to be cold, crisp and refreshing. With that in mind here are five mixed drinks you can serve at your next summer get together.

  • Mermaid Water
There’s something about summer that says magic…and the beach. This water-fairy inspired cocktail makes all those that sip on it feel like they could grow a beautiful tale and hop in the water because surely this is the drink of mermaids themselves.

    • Ingredients: Will make one drink
      • 2 oz. Captain Morgan spiced rum
      • 2 oz. coconut rum
      • 1 oz. Curacao, Blue
      • 6 oz. pineapple juice
      • 1 oz. fresh squeezed lime juice
    • Mix together and add lime wedges for a last bit of flare
  • Piña Colada
How can you go through summer without at least one piña colada? You can’t. It’s the quintessential summer cocktail.

    • Ingredients: Will make one drink
      • 3 oz. light rum
      • 6 oz. pineapple juice
      • 2 oz. coconut cream
      • 2 cups ice
    • Directions:
      • Blend all ingredients together in a blender and go get caught in the rain.
  • Cake by the Ocean
For years a classic summer drink has been Sex on the Beach—and still is mind you—and as such it inspired a D.N.C.E. song “Cake by the Ocean” thanks to a lost in translation moment with one of their songwriters. So, it was only a matter of time before the new slogan would get a drink of its own. The drink has a personality all to itself.

    • Ingredients: Will make a pitcher
      • 2 cups cake flavored vodka
      • 2 cups coconut rum
      • 2 cups pineapple juice
      • 2 cups orange juice
      • Club soda, optional
      • Fruit for garnish
      • Ice or frozen pineapple to keep chilled
    • Directions:
      • Add vodka, rum, pineapple juice & orange juice to pitcher filled with ice or frozen pineapple. Add 2-4 cups club soda to make a punch. Place fruit around the edge of the pitcher and enjoy!
  • Washington Whip
Summer is a time to celebrate our homeland. It kicks off with Memorial Day, ends with Labor Day, and plops the 4thof July right in the middle. Embrace the patriotic season and mix up this red, white and blue adult slushy.

    • Ingredients: Will make 4
      • 9 cups of ice (separated into thirds)
      • 1 cup grenadine syrup
      • 1 cup Blue Curacao

      • Prepare drinks by layering each slush. Do whatever color order you think George Washington would most approve of.
  • Boozy Sweet Tea
If you combine all things southern and summer you get this drink. As any good southerner knows a cold glass of sweet tea is only amplified by a few slices of a fresh peach; toss in some moonshine and you’re ready to kick back on the river for a long weekend.

    • Ingredients:
      • 2 black tea bags
      • 1 cup boiling water
      • 1 cup ice cubes
      • 3 tablespoons sugar
      • 2 shots peach moonshine
    • Directions:
      • Steep tea bags in boiling water for at least 5 minutes.
      • Remove tea bags then add sugar to melt; add ice cubes
      • Chill for 2 hours
      • Stir in peach moonshine and enjoy!
